Tanya Haden Black is an American artist, musician, and singer. She is one of the triplet daughters of jazz bassist Charlie Haden.
Born in New York City, she was a member of several bands, including Let’s Go Sailing, and is the creator of the Imaginary Bear puppet show. Haden has contributed to recordings of a number of Los Angeles musicians, including vocals and cello on Par Avion’s EP, Pop Music United.
Her father is the jazz double bassist Charlie Haden. Haden is the triplet sister of bassist Rachel Haden and violinist Petra Haden, and the three have performed as the Haden Triplets. Their brother is bassist-singer Josh Haden, leader of the group Spain.
She received her MFA degree from California Institute of the Arts, where she majored in experimental animation. She continues her work in visual art and has exhibited in several shows including one at the Las Cienegas Projects in 2010. In 2015, Haden was picked up by Rosamund Felsen Gallery where she had a one-artist exhibition showing drawings.
Haden plays cello extensively in the Los Angeles area including performing as an additional member of the band Silversun Pickups. She also plays the cello on their Pikul EP, which was released in 2005. Haden has also recorded with the Los Angeles indie folk band Sea Wolf and played cello on Los Angeles based rock band The Warlocks album Surgery in 2005.
Tanya, with her sisters Petra and Rachel, known as The Haden Triplets, released their first album on February 4, 2014. The album includes the sisters singing in harmony. The record was produced by Ry Cooder and also features the sisters on their respective instruments. The album is being released on Third Man Records which was founded by musician Jack White.

Black reminisced to Parade in 2015, revealing, “I didn’t date Tanya or talk to her or anything in high school, I was pretty shy. I just watched her from afar. We only started dating like 20 years after high school.”

“We met at school at 18 – and I wasted 15 years waiting for my chance. She was everything I could wish for. Talented, beautiful and a wonderful performer on stage.
They remain married to this day, and Jack has spoken about how he just loves spending his time with Tanya .
In an interview with GQ, he said: “I don’t want to go anywhere anyway. I like to be at home. And I like love,
“I love just hanging poolside with Tanya and the boys. A day by the pool, that’s a nice day off.”
Well, at least it all worked out in the end for Black, once he finally picked up the courage.

The couple have two children together.
In June 2006, not long after they married, Tanya gave birth to their first child, a boy named Samuel Jason Black.
Their second son Thomas David Black, was born in May 2008.
“Before Tanya, I had always felt like marriage was not for me,” Black says. “I didn’t like the way it worked out with my parents. I didn’t ever want to be in a divorce, so I was never going to get married.” But then children—someone else’s—entered the picture.
“Something happened when I was on King Kong,” he says. “The fellow who plays King Kong, Andy Serkis, was there with his wife and kids, and he let me read a bedtime story to his kids. And I thought, Oh, I should have a kid. I want to have a family. There was an emptiness that started to develop after that. Now I’m happiest just swimming with my boys in the ocean.”
